Ottawa 2026 – Day 5 – Diefenbunker

Before driving home, we visited the fascinating Diefenbunker in Carp, Canada’s underground Cold War emergency government headquarters. Exploring its blast tunnel, hospital, and command facilities offered a compelling glimpse into nuclear-era preparedness, making for a memorable final stop on our Ottawa getaway.

Ottawa 2026 – Day 4

Despite a rain-soaked start, improving weather allowed us to cycle the scenic Ottawa River Pathway from Westboro Beach. Trail closures shortened the ride, but changing skies, local landmarks, another ride, and generous hospitality from friends made for a memorable final day in Ottawa.

Ottawa 2026 – Day 3

Rain forced us to swap our long Gatineau Park ride for a shorter cycling tour of Ottawa, showcasing impressive bike infrastructure, protected intersections, the Chief William Commanda Bridge, and the Trillium Pathway. The day ended with Question Period on Parliament Hill, a meeting with MP Sonia Sidhu, and a birthday dinner in ByWard Market.

Ottawa 2026 – Day 1 and 2

Our trip to Ottawa began with a stop at David and Dayle’s water-access-only cottage before continuing east through Algonquin. After settling into our university residence, we explored Ottawa on foot, discovering protected cycling infrastructure, Parliament Hill, the Rideau Canal, heritage architecture, and unexpectedly affordable student-area dining ahead of tomorrow’s meeting with MP Sonia Sidhu.

Mont-Tremblant – Day 10

We packed and took it down to the car. Fortunately, we had an elevator to take us down from the 12th floor. It’s always easier to pack to go home – no choices about what to pack and, when you have brought food, if you’ve planned correctly, you have eaten most of it. We decidedContinue reading “Mont-Tremblant – Day 10”

Mont-Tremblant – Day 9 – Ottawa

Apologies dear readers for leaving yesterday’s blog on a cliffhanger and taking a few days to write today’s. We decided to take a walk before breakfast, to retrace last night’s walk, to try to find Cindy‘s key card. The first place we stopped was the bridge on Laurier Avenue over the canal where I sawContinue reading “Mont-Tremblant – Day 9 – Ottawa”

Mont-Tremblant – Day 8 – Ottawa

The heat wave was forecast to continue so we planned to do a 14 km ride I found on the “Ottawa Rural Routes” Ride with GPS account, followed by a visit to the air conditioned comfort of the National Gallery of Art. I love the spiral staircase at Laurier Avenue. We turned too soon asContinue reading “Mont-Tremblant – Day 8 – Ottawa”

Mont-Tremblant – Day 7 – St-Jovite, Montebello, and Ottawa

We packed everything up, loaded the car, drove to the sister resort to return our keys, and then parked in a the shady spot in Mont-Tremblant Village. It was already 25° and we were driving to Ottawa today so, we decided to just ride back to St-Jovite for a coffee, and to experience an enjoyableContinue reading “Mont-Tremblant – Day 7 – St-Jovite, Montebello, and Ottawa”

#OttawaBramptonOdysseyCycle – OTC Magazine Summary

The following is a summary of our trip written for the Ontario Traffic Council‘s quarterly magazine. Past issues are no longer online so I am sharing the summary here. Back to Ottawa – December 3&4

After a relaxing morning with breakfast in the apartment, we walked to Second Cup for coffee. Owen was playing with my camera and took a picture of me.  I don’t get to be the subject very often in my family. Then we proceeded to the Canadian Museum of Nature –  a pleasant 20 minute walkContinue reading “Back to Ottawa – December 3&4”
