We had a slow start this morning: the weather was a lovely 18° by the time we set out. We drove about 40 minutes east to Base31 where we parked and started our ride. Base31 operated as a military air training base until 1969. The site was acquired by PEC Community Partners in December 2021.Continue reading “Prince Edward County – Day 2 – Base 31, Picton, and Lake on the Mountain”

Hamilton- Day 7
We decided to walk to Steve’s Open Kitchen for breakfast. It took us past Hamilton City Hall, where there is a topiary Tiger-Cats mascot, mini football field, and football. There is also the now ubiquitous large public art sculpture of the name of the city. Adjacent to City Hall is Whitehern, a well preserved, statelyContinue reading “Hamilton- Day 7”
Whitby 2023 – Day 4
The weather today was similar to yesterday, mostly overcast, and a very comfortable temperature for riding, not much wind, and very little chance of rain. I downloaded today’s ride, from the Durham Region Cycling page and it is a loop of Oshawa and Courtice. I altered the route to turn it into a loop startingContinue reading “Whitby 2023 – Day 4”
Whitby 2023 – Day 2
I awoke just before my alarm, momentarily confused as to where I was, then got up and looked out the window, to discover it was a dark rainy morning in Whitby. The rain was tapering off. We got into our cycling gear, picked a place to meet David, 8 km away, at the garden centreContinue reading “Whitby 2023 – Day 2”
Whitby 2023 – Day 1
Dayle, Cindy and I set off for an adventure in Whitby today. It’s the second annual Whitby adventure for Cindy and me. I wrote about it last year here. David couldn’t get away today, but will be joining us tomorrow. I have downsized from the giant pink suitcase I took to Ottawa 6 years ago,Continue reading “Whitby 2023 – Day 1”

Cornwall and Lac Morency – Day 2
Our route for the day was to ride along the Waterfront Trail, west to Long Sault where we left off yesterday, then return to Cornwall to see the waterfront park, and a local conservation area as recommended Laurie. She also reviewed the route and made some improvements to it based on her excellent local knowledge.Continue reading “Cornwall and Lac Morency – Day 2”
Cornwall and Lac Morency – Day 1
Cindy and I enjoyed the P’Tit Train du Nord and The Laurentians so much last year that we decided to go again. We booked four nights at Lac Morency, where Cindy can use her timeshare credits, and arranged to stop for two nights, en route, in Cornwall, with my cousin Laurie, and her husband Bruce.Continue reading “Cornwall and Lac Morency – Day 1”
